Falmouth is home to a number of natural landmarks along is impressive coastline, although a number of its more prominent manmade structures tend to be more popular. Amongst these landmarks, Falmouth's port is extremely historic and has been in operation for more than 300 years.
Another eye-catching landmark is Pendennis Castle, which was built between 1540 and 1545, and is now owned by the English Heritage. Here are Falmouth's main landmarks and monuments.

Cornwall's biggest castle, Pendennis is a major landmark in the Falmouth area and was built during the mid-16th century, when it was used to defend England against potential threats and possible invasions. Pendennis Castle offers many impressive historic features and the ramparts boast some truly spectacular views. The Discovery Centre is especially popular and contains many interactive displays, while the gun tower and its many cannons offers an insight into days gone bay. Pendennis Castle can be found along the headland, perched high at the top of a hill, and is within walking distance of central Falmouth, with its elevated position making it easy to spot. During the summer, a fun land train links Pendennis Castle with the nearby town centre.

Falmouth harbour is a particularly prominent local landmark and first made its name during the 17th century, when Post Office boats stopped here en route to the USA. Today, the dockyard remains busy and important, being used to repair and build many ships. The harbour itself is believed to be one of the biggest natural harbours on the entire planet and boasts many appealing features, such as moorings, boat trips and seasonal sailing events.
