Cornwall's biggest castle, Pendennis is a major landmark in the Falmouth area and was built during the mid-16th century, when it was used to defend England against potential threats and possible invasions. Pendennis Castle offers many impressive historic features and the ramparts boast some truly spectacular views. The Discovery Centre is especially popular and contains many interactive displays, while the gun tower and its many cannons offers an insight into days gone bay. Pendennis Castle can be found along the headland, perched high at the top of a hill, and is within walking distance of central Falmouth, with its elevated position making it easy to spot.
